Spring Chinook

 CLEARWATER SPRING CHINOOK

Spring Chinook are not only our first crack at salmon after a long cold steelhead season, but they are without a doubt our best eating fish of the year.  Idaho’s Clearwater River is a premier destination fishery for Spring Chinook, or as we call the “Springers”.  We typically start seeing our first opportunities at Clearwater Springers around the 10th of May with the season continuing through the middle of June during most good years.  This is high water season and we target these fish primarily by backtrolling divers and eggs and bait wrapped plugs such a Kwickfish. A ripping takedown from a Clearwater Spring Chinook during the high flows of spring runnoff will be an event that leaves your wanting more.  Most of our customers that come to experience these trips re book for the following year.

We typically start our season in the Lewiston area and follow the fish up the river as good numbers of fish begin to stack around the town of Orofino.  Depending on the time frame you book we will be able to recommend a convenient place to stay in either town, but due to the unpredictable run timings we may have you meet us anywhere in the 40 mile section we fish, and our guides will make that decision based on what area is fishing best for them.
