Clearwater River Steelhead Report

Despite the low numbers of returning steelhead to the Clearwater River we have been experiencing some very good fishing. When fishing on the Clearwater we work as employees for Reel Time Fishing. Our boats have been averaging 8-10 fish landed per day. We have been having most of our success side drifting pegged beads and yarn and egg combinations.  One of the biggest keys to putting lots of fish in the boat during lean years is to cover lots of water. This is a major advantage of fishing out of a power boat as we can cover 15+ miles or river easily in a day.  We have plenty of openings during January and February so don’t hesitate to get in touch with us to get in on the action.

Also now is the time to get your Columbia River Salmon, Sturgeon, and Walleye Trips Booked. We will be getting after the Walleye full time starting in March. If you have specific dates you want to fish it’s best to get them booked early!

Snake River Steelhead Report

Snake River Steelhead

D5200F6B-DFA1-4895-AFAE-1635441E8AC5Over the weekend we spent some time fishing in the Heller Bar area of the Snake River, and despite the low return numbers and the negative Steelhead press we did very well. On Saturday I had two customers hook over 12 Steelhead and land 6.  Numbers like that are great when we are talking Steelhead fishing. These are great fish that fight hard and have great meat quality. We have lots of open dates for the rest of November so if you are interested get in touch with us and we can get you set up on a great day of Steelhead fishing!

Clearwater River Steelhead Report!

We had a great day yesterday getting back to fishing at home on Idaho’s Clearwater River. Even with a down return the Clearwater is fishing very well and these fish are some of the most amazing that Mother Nature has to offer. Every fish we hooked yesterday took straight to the air. It’s really looking like we are going to have a fantastic year of fishing.

Our Regulations are a little different this year as we are allowed to keep up to two hatchery Steelhead, but they have to be under 28 inches to keep. While this really limits the number of keepers we will find it also has a major impact on fishing pressure and lets us have some fantastic fishing.

We have lots of open dates for both the Snake and Clearwater Rivers. Get in touch with us to get your trip set up. We work as employees of Reel Time Fishing for all Clearwater trips. Contact us for availability and info, but all payment will be made to Reel Time Fishing.

Great Fall Chinook Fishing!

The start to our annual Fall Chinook season has be nothing short of fantastic!  We have been down here in the Lower Columbia River fishing the famed Buoy 10 season and it has not disappointed. We have been getting limits of Chinook most days and we are starting to see a bunch of Coho in our catch.  We still have Thursday the 31st of August open down here in  Astoria. This is our last open date and it is a full open boat.

We also wanted to take this as an opportunity to talk about our upcoming fall seasons. As many of you have heard it is not looking like we will have an opportunity to harvest and fall Steelhead off the Snake or Clearwater Rivers.  This is difficult news to swallow, but we want to make sure you know that there are plenty of great fishing opportunities ahead this fall and because of the lack of Steelhead we are extending our Fall Chinook season on the Columbia River.

Starting the 8th of September we will be jumping back on the migration of Fall Chinook up the Columbia and we will be fishing the Columbia River Gorge near Hood River, Oregon.  We plan on fishing this area through the 16th of September.  These fish in the Columbia Gorge are in great shape as most of them still have more than 100 miles to go before they spawn.  We will fish one of a few locations depending on where the best opportunity for fish is at.  Our most fished areas of the Gorge are the mouth of the Klickitat, Drano Lake, and the mouth of the Dechutes River.  All three locations give you a great chance to take home some great salmon. And the entire Columbia above Bonneville Dam has a limit of two Adult Chinook daily.

We are also planning on extending our Hanford Reach Fall Chinook season through the 22nd of October.  This will give us a great extended opportunity to catch these big Chinook as they state near their spawning grounds on the Hanford Reach.  We often catch some of our biggest Chinook of the year off the “reach” and fishing for these bruisers in the desert of Eastern Washington is a great experience.

We thank everyone for your continued support of Jones Sport Fishing! And without our great customers living our dream on the water would not be possible.

Chinook Fishing is Great in Astoria / Buoy 10!

We have have 2 open seats this upcoming Saturday the 19th well as the 24th. Give us a call at our office at 208-669-1569 to get your trips booked.

Don’t forget we start our Hanford Reach Fall Chinook season in mid September and run all the way through October. Don’t miss this great opportunity to catch some really nice Chinook

Astoria/Buoy 10 fishing is on fire!

Fishing has really picked up down here in Astoria the past few days! This is one of our favorite times of year when we get the opportunity to target ocean fresh fall Chinook and Coho as they make their fist appearance into the Columbia River. We have a few available dates left August 29th and 30th are open for up to 4 anglers and we have 2 seats available on The 19th, 24th, and 27th. Get in touch with us if you want in on this Astoria action.

Also it is looking like we will have another great year chasing big Columbia River Fall Chinook on the Hanford Reach. We still have some great dates open from mid September into early October.

Upper Columbia River Summer Chinook Report

We continue to have fantastic fishing on the Upper Columbia River near the Brewster and Pateros areas. These fish are in great shape and cut just as well as most Spring Chinook!  Yesterday was particularly great. We lost track on the number of fish hooked and we landed 4 great hatchery fish along with releasing a few wild fish for two customers. Next week is our last opportunity for Summer Chinook for the year before we switch gears and head to Astoria to start our Fall Chinook and Coho season at the famed Buoy 10 fishery.

Our last chance available seats for Summer Chinook are: Monday 7/24 open boat, 7/25 open boat, 7/26 2 seats open, 7/27 2 seats open. We also have 4 hour evening trips open all the previous dates as well. Give our office a call at 208-669-1569 or Book Online at Jonessportfishing.com
