The Northwest's Premier Outfitter offering guided fishing trips on Idaho's Clearwater and Snake Rivers, American Falls Reservoir, CJ Strike Reservoir, Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir, and the Columbia River in Washington and Oregon.
We have been experiencing great fishing on the Clearwater River. All our Clearwater River trips are done as an employee of Reel Time Fishing. The team at Reel Time had a great day today averaging 6-10 fish per boat for the 5 boats we had out today. All our fish are being caught side drifting egg and yarn combinations. Although fishing is currently very good we are having to cover a lot of water to find our biters. With water temps still in the lower 50’s the fish seem very spread throughout the system. We are finding fish in all different types of water, but this time of year we tend to see most of our success in the very head end of pools and in the tailouts. The reason behind this is that these fish are very actively moving and these seem to be the places that most often see holding fish. As water temps start to drop in the coming weeks we will start to see fish pool up in the deeper runs, but for now we are really focusing on the water that is 3-8 feet deep and in the heads or tailouts of holes.
For the next week it looks like we are going to see some rain and another increase in river flows. This should be good thing as it will get fish moving and redistributed throughout the river.
If you are interested in fishing this week we have boats open Friday and some dates throughout November. We consider the next four months November, December, January, and February to be the best months of the year to put trophy B-Run Steelhead in the boat.

We had a great day of Steelhead fishing today in Hells Canyon. We fished out of the Heller Bar area. Today was a mixture of frustration and jubilation as the river went from decently fishable in the morning to pretty much puke brown by lunch, but by 1pm we found a little section of fishable water and that’s when things got interesting, before lunch we had only one small Chinook and one wild Steelhead to the boat, but in the two hours between 1 and 3 we hooked a total of 10 steelhead landed 6 and kept 4.
Today was one of those days on the water were determination and perseverance paid off. We notice some very subtle changes in river conditions and took advantage of an opportunity to put fish in the boat.
I think later this week and next week look great for the Snake River in the Heller Bar area as these storms and high water should bring a bunch of fresh fish into the area. We have openings Monday through Friday of next week and Fishing is going to be fantastic! This fishery will continue to be very good all the way through November and December. To book your next trip with us visit the Book online Now button on our homepage or visit the Snake River Steelhead section on our website for more information.
We had another fantastic day yesterday fishing the Snake River out of Heller Bar for both Fall Chinook Salmon and Steelhead. Between salmon and Steelhead we landed 10 plus adult fish and numerous Chinook jacks, and ended up keeping 4 fish (two Chinook and 2 Steelhead.) All our fish were caught side drifting eggs and yarnies. Our best producing eggs have been Jones Sport Fishing Steelhead Cure in Natural and Orange, and our Salmon Cure in Red.
One thing we have noticed this season is that while the overall steelhead numbers might be down the average size of fish we have been catching this season has been way up. Normally most fish we catch on the Snake River are in the 4-6 pound class, but this year we are seeing lots of fish in the 8-10 pound range.
We have openings over the next few weeks. If you have been thinking about a Snake River Steelhead trip now is the perfect time to get out in the water. Check out the Book Online Now button on our homepage to view available dates and book your trips.
We had a great day today chasing salmon and Steelhead in the Heller Bar area of the Snake River. Although we mostly caught Fall Chinook today we did manage to find a few Steelhead. The river is absolutely loaded with fish now and should continue to fish fantastic for the next few weeks for salmon and Steelhead and well into February for Steelhead. This is a very active fishery where we mostly side drift bait, so you are actually responsible for catching your own fish. We have quite a few openings for this fishery, so get with us now to book your trip. To view our open dates click on the Book online now button. On our home page. We fish most of our fall snake River dates out of Heller Bar.
We had an absolutely fantastic day today fishing Idaho’s Clearwater River. I had two customers join me today on a wonderful October Day. Now though October 15th is the catch and release season on the Clearwater, and it is my absolute favorite time of year to be on the water, and today was a perfect example of that. We landed over 30 Steelhead and Chinook Salmon today side drifting small egg clusters and yarnies. Yes you hard that right over 30 salmon and Steelhead were landed today by two customers! We are forecast to receive a great run of Steelhead this year on the Clearwater, and this area fishes great now – February! For people who like to catch lots of fish and don’t mind watching them swim away the next 10 days are the absolute best fishing of the year, and for people who like to catch and keep fish the Clearwater retention season opens on the 15th of October.
I run all of my Clearwater trips as an employee of Reel Time Fishing. Contact me at 208-861-0654 or email email@example.com for availability and prices, but all final booking is done through Reel Time Fishing.
